Piero Spada, MSc

Visiting Scientist

My immersion into the realm of cancer biology was the result of a harsh personal experience: in the fall of 2019 my nine year old daughter Lucy was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. During her treatment, my coping strategy was to use every iota of scientific training I had to help advocate for better treatment options. After having witnessed the current and antiquated ‘standard of care’  (decades old chemo, surgery, and radiation), I resolved to become part of the solution of finding more precise, less toxic therapies for children battling sarcoma cancers.

My current role within cc-TDI is to help coordinate and propel-forward a multi-institution, collaborative project targeting EWSR1-FLI1 protein, the master oncogene in Ewing Sarcoma. In addition to this role, my family & I established the Spada Pediatric Sarcoma Foundation to help bridge the massive funding gap for researchers looking to find a complete and permanent cure to Ewing Sarcoma.
